This elegantly simple framework offers a pragmatic and impressively comprehensive approach to the cultivation of mind. This four-part series of day-long programs will explore each foundation and how it is used to establish focused attention and produce liberating insights into the nature of perceptions. Each day-long program will include sitting and walking meditations, and Dhamma teachings that are designed to be accessible for the new-comer yet stimulating for the seasoned practitioner.
Chairs are provided and the floor is carpeted. Bring your own sitting cushion if you prefer to meditate sitting on the floor. Bring a mat, towel or blanket for yoga exercises. Right Intention directs the mind toward ethical and mental development to increase our choices for wholesome action. According to the Samma Sankappa sutta, Right Intention carries three main expressions: the intentions of renunciation, good will, and harmlessness. These intentions counter desire, ill will, and harmfulness. By directing our meditation practice toward Right Intention we increase our ability to see with greater wisdom and act more skillfully. EVERYONE IS WELCOME. No registration and no previous experience required. Bring a bag lunch; and a mat, towel, or blanket for floor exercises. Chairs are provided and the floor is carpeted. We will explore the deepening of concentration, overcoming distractions, establishing absorptions, and the relationship of concentration to insight. These day-long programs provide opportunities to apply the instructions in meditation and to discuss the topics in depth with the author. An optional movement session is offered from 10:30-11:30. If you can attend only a portion of the day, we request that you arrive or depart during the lunch break (12:30-1:15) and attend either the full morning or the full afternoon segment of the program.
